Job Title: Financial Manager, The Financial Diet

Company Info: Who We Are 

Job Type: Part-time, hourly role comprising between 15 and 25 hours a week depending on time of year/quarter. There is an opportunity for contracted or employee role, depending on hire preference.

Wage: $50/hour

Location: Full-time remote during and beyond COVID-19. Our offices are based in Manhattan for when in-office work resumes, but this position is not expected to be based in the office.

The Financial Diet (TFD) is a cross-platform media company devoted to providing young women with the tools and resources to be confident with money. Now in our sixth year, our content portfolio includes a dynamic web publication, the largest female-focused personal finance channel on YouTube, an ongoing digital events and workshop series, and a highly-engaged community on social media. Our team of thoughtful, motivated women is small but mighty, committed to telling real stories and meeting our audience where they are. As our platforms rapidly grow, our purpose remains the same: to break the taboo of talking about money and give our audience the motivation to build the lives they want on any budget. 

Who You Are:

Our financial manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial health and functioning of TFD’s operations. While our current financial needs are fairly limited by the size of our company (seven current full-time employees), the right financial lead will help shape the operational efficiency of our organization and provide better frameworks for strategic decision-making through the use of thoughtful financial models and analyses. This role has the opportunity for growth in scope and hour as the year progresses.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate will have the following credentials:

  • Certification in one or more elements of financial management and accounting, as well as at least three years’ experience providing financial management services for other organizations.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Quickbooks, ADP, Excel/Google Sheets, and Bill.com
  • The demonstrated ability to create high-level financial documents such as projections, budgets, cash flow models, and retrospective analyses

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Overseeing and executing on all TFD day-to-day financial management needs, such as bookkeeping, payroll, and AR/AP
  • Creating high-level financial documents to analyze with TFD leadership on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, depending on document function
  • Coordinating with a third-party tax firm for annual tax return preparation and filing
  • Overseeing and executing TFD’s employee benefits program as well as managing each employee’s company file

Location: Full-time remote during COVID-19. We anticipate the ability to return to the NYC office sometime in 2021 so this hire will need to be a resident of the New York City metro area. Once we resume in-office, there will be a flexible work-from-home policy.

The Head of Brand Partnerships is a pivotal leadership role within The Financial Diet, with significant opportunities to innovate, lead, and shape the work that we do. Your primary responsibility will be to increase revenue from ad sales, mainly focusing on custom branded content and events. This will mean both prospecting new business and stewarding our existing relationships. In addition, you will be responsible for managing accounts from inception through completion, in collaboration with our editorial team. This role is not a traditional sales role and not for someone who would prefer to sell templated products in a routine way, or to play a narrowly-defined role within a large operation. We envision this role being largely autonomous, meaning that you will lead the entire sales arm of the company. It is a fantastic and unique opportunity for someone who is excited by possibilities, believes in our mission, and wants to play a major role in the growth of our company. 

Who You Are

The ideal candidate will have the following credentials:

  • Experience in a comparable sales role at a digital publisher, or advertising or media agency
  • A proven track record of bringing in substantial new business (with references who could confirm this track record on request)
  • Strong account management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage complicated projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to think creatively about new product offerings and dynamic sales strategies to meet clients’ growing needs and growing possibilities within our company

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Own, manage, and maintain all advertising accounts (approx. 20-30 per year with widely varying budgets)
  • Regularly pitch new prospective clients including those we’ve never worked with
  • Work collaboratively with Creative Team to manage complex projects involving web, video, and social content, and events (digital at present, in-person in future)

Our social media content creator will be responsible for creating 5 pieces of content per week, specifically for TikTok and Instagram Reels. The person in this position will work closely with our marketing director to repurpose content from our other platforms to be TikTok and Reels-friendly as well as pitch original content ideas. We use social media to educate our growing audience — the person best fit for this role will understand how brands use social media and can help craft content with a purpose across these platforms. Based on growth and company needs, this role has the opportunity for growth in scope and hours — potentially turning into a full-time role.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate will have the following credentials:

  • A thorough understanding of relevant social media platforms and best practices
  • Up-to-date with current social media trends and platforms
  • Knows how to create and share native video content
  • A basic understanding of what metrics matter
  • Be a creative individual who is also metrics-driven
  • Hands-on experience as a social media manager or content creator in the PF or lifestyle space — brand experience a plus
  • Should be comfortable on camera

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Create 5 pieces of content per week specifically for TikTok + Instagram Reels — a mix of new ideas and repurposed ideas from content from our other platforms 
  • Work closely with Marketing Director on content ideation and production
  • Your focus will be nurturing our current audience first with valuable content, growing our audience second
  • Communicate with followers, respond to comments, DMs in a timely manner
