By | Thursday, July 05, 2018

Life is expensive. There’s no two ways around it. Sometimes just going outside for a walk can make you spend money on random items or food. Then there are the persistent habits we all have, or the temptations we can’t avoid that make living even more costly. No matter your relationship to money, there are probably some areas of your life you should reconsider, like your need to overspend on takeout every week, or making risky investments without doing a fair amount of research beforehand. There may even be some personal practices you’ve developed after seeing your parents or friends do them — and they might not be in your best interest, such as washing your hair daily when you don’t need to.

All things considered, while there are certain costs in life you can’t avoid (like housing, food, and utilities), there are concrete ways to reduce your overall spending over time. But first, you have to be honest with yourself. What do you tend to buy too often despite it having no real value? Are there financial traps you always fall for that clearly don’t work for your lifestyle? Do you constantly feel the need to keep up with the Joneses on social media? The answers are likely to make you shudder, but they will also bring to your attention what you need to fix in order to get better with your personal finances.

To get you started on your life overhaul, Chelsea has created a detailed list over on the TFD Youtube channel of 7 common unconscious habits that may be costing you in the long run. Check out the video to find out more!
