There’s this common perception in our culture that you’re not really a proper adult (#adulting) until you have your own home and car, children, and are blissfully married. Well, sorry to break it to you (if you haven’t already figured this out), but there are so many different ways to be an adult than just that picture-perfect lifestyle. As long as you’re over the age of 18, you’re an adult — even if you don’t have your finances together, aren’t a property owner, or aren’t in a relationship to begin with, much less married. Sure, it may be nice to have those things and achieve all of those benchmarks, but it doesn’t make you less of a grownup if you don’t. Your life is just as valid even if it doesn’t measure up to a certain ideal of what our society says an adult is supposed to look like. Believing otherwise will only hold you back.
That’s why, for this week’s video, Chelsea is exploring eight myths about adulthood that she once thought was true — and dispelling them along the way. Head over to the TFD channel to find out what they are and why it’s more than okay if you don’t have the quintessential adult life people say you should.
