5 Steps To Make Any Major Life Decision Feel Less Scary

By | Friday, October 13, 2017

There are moments in life when it seems almost impossible to know how to make the right decision. Especially in those moments that involve others, or the ones that shape our destiny. Sometimes, I get quickly overwhelmed by wanting to achieve too many things at once. Other times, I want to figure out exactly what it takes to fulfill my dreams right away. It’d be nice to have a detailed plan how to get from point A to point B.

But it always seems to be that that the more we try to control our lives, the more we get lost. We aren’t given a step-by-step guide to knowing exactly what to do. But the beauty is that there’s no need for it.

The future changes based on our deeds, thoughts, and words we choose today.

The future isn’t one inevitable, static point. If we decide to control the outcome, we shut ourselves off the endless field of possibilities. We become blind to those possibilities that aren’t a part of our plan.

Tip #1: Don’t look for validation from outside.

This is your life. These are your decisions. Only you will live with the choices you’ve made. Seeking validation from the outside is the fastest route to disappointment. You’ll never know how amazing and capable you are if you only let others interfere. Express your beautiful dreams and ideas in reality, and you’ll never feel like you waste your life anymore. The only approval you need is your own.

Tip #2: Be crystal clear about your intentions.

Intentions matter. We get very different results if we choose from the place of love instead of fear. More loving intentions create a more loving reality. Even when you have a feeling that it doesn’t matter what you do, it does. When you do things with the right intention, at some point, you experience a breakthrough — you start opening yourself to abundance. When you choose to act with the right intentions, you’ll not just feel better, you’ll also show your worth.

Tip #3: Play it out.

When you’re unsure about what to do, one of the best ways is to imagine your options and see how they each make you feel five years from now. Sit with each decision and observe how it makes you feel. The sensation you get is your intuition, which is always right.

Tip #4: Ask your future self.

You can also ask your future self. This process is straightforward, yet profound. Take a piece of paper and ask yourself what Future You would want you to do. You can tap into intuition this way, and see choice would benefit you most and make you happiest in the future.

Tip #5: Ask yourself what the right next step is.

I once heard Oprah Winfrey say this, and I loved it right away. I love simplicity, so I’ve started using this tool myself. The answer you receive doesn’t have to make any sense to you, but do it anyway. When you release the attachment to the outcome, your excitement will be your guide. Do what feels good. Do the most natural thing at the moment, and you cannot miss the target. And from that place, ask yourself the next right step, and another, and another.

What we do should feel easy. If it isn’t easy, then we probably took a detour somewhere along the way.

If you focus just on the next right step, you won’t just get to your goal faster — you’ll also enjoy the journey. After all, life is the journey to be enjoyed.
