6 Wedding Budget Hacks I Used to Save Thousands

By | Monday, December 03, 2018

There’s a reason wedding budget tips are such a popular topic in the personal finance community: weddings are freaking expensive. In fact, the average cost of a wedding in the United States is over $30,000. And part of that makes sense — if you’re throwing a party for 100+ people that includes dinner and often unlimited drinks, costs are going to add up. But part of that is also the fault of the wedding industrial complex. An entire industry exists to make us spend money on this one day, and figuring out how to work around that can be tricky (not to mention exhausting).

Luckily, there are plenty of simple ways to save on wedding costs that don’t involve being a total master of DIY or cutting down your guest list. In this week’s episode of the 3-Minute Guide, brought to you by Skillshare, Erin details some of the hacks she used for her own wedding this past September — including how much money she was able to save. For example, she cut down her vendor costs by hundreds of dollars simply by going with a photographer and DJ who did great work for her friends. Referral discounts are super common, and a great way to save money on services you know you’ll be happy with! Head over to the TFD YouTube channel to hear the rest of Erin’s great tips.
