If you’ve ever purchased a car (or even looked into buying a car, or even known someone while they were in the process of buying a car), then you probably know what a stressful process it can be, both financially and otherwise. Cars are expensive, they depreciate in value pretty much immediately, and yet are super important and essential in the lives of most of the people who have one. So it goes without saying that when buying a car, you are going to have to make sure that you’re getting a nice, fully-functional, high-quality vehicle (and, if you’re lucky, avoiding that high-quality price tag).

And trust us — a lot of the time, that is way easier said than done. If you want to get a good price and value for your money (instead of paying the full sticker price on a car with a worth that will go down immediately when you drive it off the lot), you’re probably going to want to take the pre-owned route. Unfortunately, in the business of used car sales, there are a lot of sketchy happenings, and a lot of red flags you should be on the lookout for while used-car-shopping so you don’t get screwed.
