8 Money-Saving Rituals You’re Probably Not Practicing
When it comes to saving money, there’s one habit that seems to sabotage our best laid plans time and again: spending on items we want, but don’t need, when we haven’t budgeted for them. It’s impossible to go through life without occasionally spending on something you simply want — and honestly, what kind of life would that be? But when your spending starts nearing the edge of (or even exceeding) your income, it’s time to make some changes.
Most likely, learning how to not spend money you don’t have isn’t something you can do overnight. Instead of making on huge change once, you can gradually add tiny habits and rituals that help you live below your means over time. In our most recent episode of The Lifestyle Fix, Tasha illustrates several rituals anyone can implement to accessibly stop spending money on items they truly don’t need. For instance, consider establishing a 30-day “cooling off” period. When you want to impulse buy something that’s not in your budget right now, wait a month to see if you still even want it. Take note of the times when you wished you had that item in your wardrobe/home/office/etc. If you’ve decided it will genuinely add value to your life at the end of the waiting period, go ahead and start making a savings plan to obtain it. But chances are, you’ll forget about it and be glad to have not spent that money impulsively.
