Every week, we’re participating in #totalhonestytuesday, sharing the things we’d usually keep off of social media, and giving a little more insight into our real (and very un-perfect) lives. Hopefully, in doing this, we can all feel a little less pressure to appear a certain way online, and remember that everyone around us is much more than just the highlight reel we normally see.
And every Wednesday, we’re collecting stories shared on the hashtag here, so we can read them together and start our mid-week mornings with a little honesty.
#totalhonestytuesday: this is a photo of me before the most recent interview i did for my new podcast. and while im super excited about this whole thing, i didn't post it because i was starting to freak out about how public ive been about it/how many people ive told. what if they think it's a dumb idea? what if i fail and never put out an episode? what if i put it out and everyone hates it? what if I have no follow through and it ends prematurely? well, too bad. because it's happening. #LiterallyDying

I have curly hair that I straighten into oblivion. It's by far my worst beauty habit, it's terrible for my hair, and I have a ridiculously long list of excuses I give for straightening my hair so often. So for #totalhonestytuesday, here's my natural hair, and my questionable selfie skills.

since i've made a promise to myself to be engaged fully in the present, i get sad thinking about places i've been but never truly seen because my mind was too busy to enjoy them. the road trip i took with my mom almost a year ago wasn't perfect. we hiked all day & stood on the edges of canyons and i was forced to listen to my clouded mind. when i look at the pictures from our trip, my heart feels full, because i know i found pieces of myself there. although it's difficult, i'm working on treating every experience as a unique, new moment. #totalhonestytuesday

#totalhonestytuesday is simple this week: I'm homesick. Until I moved to Los Angeles I spent just about every single 3-day weekend at home. I miss my parents so much more when a 3-day weekend passes me by when I'm so far away. If you know me, you know that my parents are not even human. They're saints. They're angels. They are unbelievably selfless. I'm so lucky to have them as my parents. I was adopted as an infant, and there's no such thing as birth parents in my story. These two people are my parents in every way.❤️ #missinghome

It's #totalhonestytuesday! Please remember that what you see on social media is just the best parts of a super complex novel! That's what this day is for! Share something you wouldn't usually share and use the brilliant @faganchelsea's hashtag #totalhonestytuesday! Honesty feels good y'all!

This past weekend I went to visit a friend and took about 20 minutes more than I intended in my commute because I switched trains. I switched trains because I was harassed by two strangers in two separate occassions within a 10 minute period. It's not about me riding the metromover alone, or about what I was wearing. It's about a stranger making you feel scared and in danger just by uttering words. I wish I knew what to do about it, and I wish I could prevent all women from ever experiencing a thing like that. I know I can't, so I'm doing this for the purpose of catharsis I guess. #totalhonestytuesday

Today's #totalhonestytuesday is a big one. This week marc and I are signing on our new apartment in Harlem, in this lovely building, and 95 percent of me could not be more excited. (TFD will finally have its own office!) but there's always that 5 percent in any apartment hunt that wonders if an even better place is just around the corner. I'm bad at trusting my judgment when it comes to things like this, and I'm a little ball of nerves about not making the right choice (marc has been out of town and therefore has only seen videos). But this is NYC and the market goes lightning fast, so I gotta trust my gut. Wish me luck! 🗽🌃

Double #totalhonestytuesday: 1) No-makeup selfie, because today is grossly hot and it would melt off, and 2) This is my last car payment, meaning that the largest purchase I've made in my life thus far (not counting college) will be all paid off by tomorrow 🙌🏼 @faganchelsea

My #totalhonestytuesday today features my disgustingly sweaty self because it's so humid on campus and I haven't had time to shower since dance because I'm already swamped with work. And drinking orange juice in an effort to not get the cold that is somehow already going around. #collegeproblems #seniorproblems #oliviaversusthehonorsthesis

my #totalhonestytuesday this week is an ode to @jesslmark because i absolutely could not have survived the last few (god awful) months without her. sometimes you need more than advice. sometimes you just need someone to listen. and to party with. love you forever lady, even if you are a scorpio. 🌚 xx

#TotalHonestyTuesday I'm a huge clean eating advocate, but I have an extremely high metabolism. My constant hunger and laziness sometimes collide and I wind up eating cheesecake to get my calories because I woke up too late to make myself a lunch. Obviously this could be fixed with better planning but as of now I still struggle with remembering to do something that doesn't involve work. To the delicious mistakes in life 🍷

OOOF what a day!! There is #nofilter that could rescue this disaster…I got majorly caught in the thick of this afternoon's downpour coming home from class. But there was good news: @sara_now_its_griffin just happened to be stranded across the street right as I was arriving home, so I was able to invite her in for towels and sympathy until the storm abated (I love surprise hangouts!) On top of that, I have no further reason to leave the company of this #poodle or this #hoodie for the rest of the night. Bring on the snuggles!! #poodleparty #poodletherapy #poodlemix #poodlesofinstagram #puppies #adoptdontshop #rescuedog #yogateacher #totalhonestytuesday #storm
