Every week, we’re participating in #totalhonestytuesday, sharing the things we’d usually keep off of social media, and giving a little more insight into our real (and very un-perfect) lives. Hopefully, in doing this, we can all feel a little less pressure to appear a certain way online, and remember that everyone around us is much more than just the highlight reel we normally see.
And every Wednesday, we’re collecting stories shared on the hashtag here, so we can read them together and start our mid-week mornings with a little honesty.

#totalhonestytuesday for @faganchelsea. I feel that we women are expected to be humble/modest/ladylike at all times, even as we accomplish great things. This entire past school year, I felt weird telling people I was graduating a year early because it seemed like I was "bragging." Well, I finished my bachelor's in three years with high honors & I am DAMN proud of myself. I also think that intelligence is incredibly subjective and manifests itself differently in all of us. I rode the struggle bus through every STEM-related class I took, but I speak 3.5 languages (mein Deutsch verbessert langsam) and get a kick out of the looks I get when I deliberately go to the foreign literature section at the library to browse the Spanish/Portuguese/German stacks. On the other hand, there's my kickass software developer friend who can write code like nobody's business, but recently admitted she had no idea how to even begin writing a blog post. And then there are people like my mom, who is one of the smartest women I know despite having no college degree at all. Let's start loving ourselves, taking pride in what we accomplish, and lifting each other up.

Today's #totalhonestytuesday brought to you by the Nike shorts I stubbornly think I can still get away with wearing even though they don't fit: what the ~cool yoga poses look like when the timer doesn't like you and you're too tired to hold your core (and thus the pose) properly. Bonus honesty: sometimes in the summer most of us are too sweaty to do these poses for too long anyway; my elbow slipped out and I fell on my ass. It's not all pretty poses and pointed toes. #yoga #yogafails @faganchelsea

Today's #totalhonestytuesday is a pre-beach vacation one, which means ~body issues~. I found the perfect pair of jorts just before we're supposed to leave, which is awesome, but my fitness journey is not as far along as I'd hoped, which is less so. My biggest body issue is definitely my wobbly pale thighs which puff on my shorts when I cross my legs, and I won't be all tone legged at the beach this year. But I've come pretty far already and fuck it, I'm gonna wear my awesome new jorts and feel great, because I'm not going to spend another beach trip letting body issues ruin my fun. 💅

For today's #totalhonestytuesday I'm ready to admit that I leave for South Korea in three weeks and, because the on campus housing arrangement fell through, I currently have no idea where I'm living. I'm hoping to find out by the end of the week, but I'd be lying if I said this whole process wasn't incredibly stressful. 💫🇰🇷 while I should have had back-ups in place for where I was living in a foreign country for four months, I'm entirely sure this'll work out and by the end of this week I'll be okay but right now it's high stress for sure

#totalhonestytuesday: I've had stomach problems all my life and am supposed to avoid certain trigger foods. (Like coffee, sweets, fried foods, etc.) I'm typically good about avoiding them, but summer temptation has been getting the better of me and I keep putting off the day when I'll ~cut back~.

So, for today's #totalhonestytuesday, I must confess that, though I previously confessed I am self-conscious, I didn't feel guilty about eating all this today during a working lunch. We are all allowed to indulge every once in a while…don't you think? #chilaquiles #mexicanfood

#totalhonestytuesday: My training run sucked today. It's over 90 degrees out, I was breathing heavier than I should be for my fitness level, and this pace is pretty slow for me. But it's the first run of training where my mental toughness was finally back to normal, and I didn't stop at all. After training for three half marathons and one full where I beat myself up every time I had a bad run, I'm ready to celebrate every run and the fact that I'm able to get up and do this everyday.

Welp, here's my first #totalhonestytuesday post, inspired by the amazing @faganchelsea. I've put on weight this year, and it's taken a toll on my self-esteem because I know it's due to unhealthy habits and not respecting my body. So, I'm going to try and get myself back into shape by doing it s l o w l y through better choices eating and exercising more (hence the dog walking picture). And it's not just for physical health, but mental wellness too. I'm discouraged, I'm not feeling my best, but I'm done being a bystander and am ready to take control once again.

#totalhonestytuesday I love my barre classes but sometimes the only thing getting me there on weekday mornings is that I already signed up at the beginning of the week for class and I don't want to cancel. Mornings can be tough, but I always feel better after class, no matter how much I may have been dragging through on those unmotivated mornings. #barre #fitness #realtalk #sweatyselfie
