An Enormous Homemade Breakfast Smoothie for $1.70
Well, I’m the conductor of the ~healthy breakfast train~ lately aren’t I? First pancakes, and now a breakfast smoothie. Behold, an enormous (16-ounce) spinach, banana and berry smoothie that is packed with vitamins and all the delicious goodness that every work day should start with. I hardly ever purchase smoothies out and much prefer to make them in the comforts of my own kitchen. We usually buy an enormous bag of whatever leafy green is on sale at the farmer’s market for $4.99, and this week it was spinach. The bag is so enormous that 2 people need to chip away at it everyday or else half of it will go bad, but since i’m a big spinach eater this works for me. Although the color is not the most vibrant and appealing, rest assured this tastes deliciously sweet and cold and wonderful. Did I mention that it only costs $1.70??? Yeeeeeeeee.
This is what you’ll need:
- Handful of fresh spinach (.40 cents)
- 1 banana, chopped (.19 cents from Trader Joe’s)
- 1/4 fresh cucumber, chopped (.25 cents from Trader Joe’s)
- Handful of frozen mixed berries (.70 cents from Trader Joe’s)
- Pinch of cinnamon (assuming you already have cinnamon in hand)
- 1/2 cup of milk (.15 cents)
= the total $1.69. Get I get hellz yeah.
For all of this gOodNesS. All you do is simply combine all ingredients into a blender and smooth out on high for about 30 seconds. Pour into a glass and pop in an adorable paper straw to break up all the (berry colored) brown.
Now that it’s getting slightly warmer out — as in it’s broken into the mid 50’s here a couple times this month — my smoothie cravings are starting to swell. If you aren’t drinking this as a healthy start to your mornings than you’re really missing out, so hop to it.
